Unit 5: Portfolio Activity 3

A son is making funeral arrangements for his mother, and he shares that there are 10 grandchildren, all under the age of 12. In that very moment, how can you demonstrate that you care?

What questions or concerns do you think the son may have about including the younger grandchildren in the funeral arrangements and the funeral service?

Share your thinking with your tutor and upload to your portfolio

NAFD GUIDANCE: To gain extra marks the student could research the outcomes into the impact of death on children – what questions arise as a result? The student should identify resources from Bereavement charities such as Child Bereavement UK or Cruse – what guidance can be offered? Identify what provision is made in schools to support child bereavement, if any? Published case studies – extract best practice. Once the student has gathered additional information from their research and considered their own experience, they should prepare their answer. How will their level of service and communication impact on the client? Are there considerations that the business need to be aware of, on the day of the funeral for example?

DAVID: We should have a good basic knowledge of child bereavement to be able to support families with younger children when someone dies. What resources are available through your business. Where can you find help. What is your attitude to children attending funerals and what advice do you give families?

Within your work consider the impacts on yourself, colleagues, the business, or the community.
