Alternative Burials Copy

Cremation and burial remain the most common forms of disposal of the deceased in the UK, however the funeral service is experiencing an increase in the popularity of green, natural funerals such as woodland burials to mirror the general increase in eco-awareness and the more proactive approach to environmental issues so evident in modern society.

As an alternative to cremation, there are two new methods for disposing of the deceased which are being considered in other parts of the world. Crymotation, also known as promession, is a Swedish freeze-drying method using liquid nitrogen to disintegrate the body into particles before interring into the top layers of soil in a biodegradable casket.

Resomation is a water-based method involving the body being dissolved in an alkaline solution and, again, the remains reduced to dust.
