Unit 4 – Deaths occurring elsewhere

Sadly, for some families, the reality of  hearing about the sudden death of a loved one is forced  upon them without any warning. Other examples of deaths occurring  elsewhere are as follows:-

Road traffic accidents
Outside of the U.K.
In the Workplace
Elsewhere as a result of other unexpected death, fatal injury, suicide or murder.

In some of these circumstances the death may have to be reported to the Coroner or Procurator Fiscal.

A Funeral Director has to be fully conversant with these procedures and the circumstances leading up to a referral to the Coroner or Procurator Fiscal. Should the Coroner or Procurator Fiscal become involved, the caller can be offered reassurance and an explanation as to what will happen next.
